Seasoning Cast Iron Cookware

There are several different ways of seasoning cast iron cookware, ranging from cooking fatty pork at high heat (Lots of splatter and mess),using lard, which is rendered fat left over from cooking fatty meats. Most suggest that you season the cookware on top of the stove, but, my grandmother used an entirely different method, heating the cookware in the oven at high temperatures to seal the cast iron and temper it at a higher temperature than would normally be used in everyday cooking. This is the secret!
